Konrad “Raithe” Helstrum, Human Gambler (Middenheim)
Born in Middenheim (or more correctly on Middenheim) his life revolved around Ulric above anything else. This even more so for young Konrad. His father a Captain of the Order of the White Wolf and his mother a Sister of the Cult of Ulric. He had a fairly above average life but was always taught in the ways of Ulric. Being told other gods are weak and lesser. But this did not always go without question. Why not follow great Sigmar or The lady of the Lake from Bretionna. Or for that matter why not Ranald, the God of Tricksters?
Because young Konrad, from barely being to walk up to his teens, was always found at the center of most mischievous acts. Most of the times it was punished with a slap on the wrist or some demeaning chore with his partner(s) in crime.
But when, on his 16th birthday, he decided it would be fun to open the stables and let all the guard’s their horses out but the fun did not last when one of the horses managed to run past the guards and out of the gates. It was then decided that people had enough of his tricks and that Konrad would join the Order as an initiate and learn some discipline.
Upon arrival Konrad’s life was made a living hell by his instructor since it was his horse that went missing and he now had to walk around and wait until a replacement was found.
Under the ruthless watch of his instructor and the always watching eye of his father Konrad had a hard time adapting to life in the Order. He was by no means tall or big and not that strong either preferring the lighter blades over the heavy hammers of the Order. Some said that he would never be a true Wolf. But as weeks turned into months into years Konrad was always slipping to the cracks. Doing his job as told. But in such a manner that no one ever really paid him much attention when he patrolled the city as a newly promoted member of the Order. And it was quickly discovered why he acted in such a way. One night after his shift was over he was followed by his former instructor as he was heading for one of the illegal gambling dens in the lower commons of Middenheim. Upon leaving the den he was arrested and it was quickly found out that this wasn’t a one time trip but that he was a regular. Konrad was stripped of rank and kicked out of the Order. His own family banished him from their lives and he was forced to live on the streets of lower Middenheim. Here he quickly learned it’s kill or be killed and since he wasn’t stronger he had to be smarter and quicker. Using his agility to his favor in fights and his mind (and dexterity) in games he made enough coin to leave the city and find fortune somewhere else. He cleaned himself up a bit and went ask forgiveness and to say goodbye to his father and mother but found out they had a new child. Feeling jealous and somewhat betrayed he turned around and walked out of the city, eyes firmly locked on the horizon and he whispered: “Who tricked who now father?”
