Bio
Jack is considered a harmless eccentric amongst his peers. Never one for proper manners and socializing, his world has always been the past. This interest in dead civilizations, with a special obsession concerning Ancient Mordhe had never bothered his parents as they figured he would never have the spine to explore anything but libraries and museums. His parents and peers would silently smirk as he amassed survival gear weapons and maps. For years he was the jester of noble society going from party to society gathering with his walking stick and framed back pack loaded with enough gear for three people. People would laugh when they inquired about his next expedition (to the kitchen or ball or bathroom) he would just smile and say that you could never be to prepared.
It came as a shock one day when his parents went looking for him, thinking him holed up in the library, only to find him gone. It was so unbelievable that they first thought him kidnaped. But a comprehensive investigation showed he had gathered up all his gear and private savings, hired some unknown guide and headed straight into the heart of the Thornwood Forest.
And that was the last anyone saw of poor Jack Malier, or so they thought…
After 3 years with no word from him, every one assumed he was dead, when a disheveled man loaded to bear with carefully packed crates and reams of paper appeared out of nowhere on the doorstep of Corvis university. He unloaded his boxes on their front lawn and exclaimed that he had finally finished his master thesis and was ready to work for the university full time. This caused much commotion, as many thought the fellow a madman, but he did bear numerous relics of interest to the university. When the dean finally confronted the man he recognized him, and vaguely remembered a debate he had five years ago, which he ended by jokingly offering Jack a tenured position if he published a paper on Mordhe eclipsing the dean’s own knowledge. Being a man of his word (and not wanting to pass up the treasure trove of artifacts), he hired Jack as promised, and the eccentric aristocrat has been a professor ever since.
These days Jack has reunited with his family, though he is still considered an eccentric, always carrying his expedition gear even at high-society galas and balls. Though he is quite a sight, people are more hesitant to laugh at him these days, particularly when he says he is preparing for his next expedition. Most just note the bulk of gear he carries with him and wonder when he will finally complete the preparations for his next adventure.
