I wrote a much longer version of this. But for now you get this poorly worded blurb.

Miles Cross, born in the year 130 Sky, of Winston and Murial Cross, lived a meager childhood with little more than he needed to survive. Both of his parents being in the culinary profession he had little want for food, but couldn’t afford many other conveniences such as clothes that fit or many toys. The most enjoyable thing in his life was cooking so he spent an exorbitant amount of time doing it.
   Miles was shy as a child and not prone to socialization.
At the age of 22 it was brought to his attention that local guilds were hiring chefs for crews. He always felt this was below his abilities but this seemed like a chance for adventure after Alice behind a stove. Little did he know he would spend 5 year behind a stove that just happened to be in the air. Unroll one day his ship was attacked by pirates. Luckily he survived by hiding in a rather large crate and made an escape when they were unloading the cargo. He found he was free from those pirates but surrounded by hundreds more on the island of Agutrot. 
He tried to find work or maybe a free ride off the island but the people who docked on the island were real cutthroats. Though he survived six months on the street mainly by doing what you see other people do and keeping your head low which is the trick in most cultures.
   Luckily one day the Barly and Finster Sky Circus docked.(because circuses can be under handed too) he decided maybe he could use his cooking skills as some kind of show. Instead he mainly cleaned up after other shows and cooked a some when needed, but during this time he decided having been attacked by pirates he should learn to fight so he practiced some basic moves like kickin and stabbing and also knife throwing. He got notices for the naturally ability he had for it and finally got his own act " Miles Cross and his Kives of Doom. More or less he just threw knives at stuff and it was cool. this continued and he traveled and had fun and led a circusy travely life until he was 35 when in his own quarters which contained his own kitchen his oven exploded. Unbeknownst to Mile a half ass knife slinger named Bingley Melvile,  jealous of his success, rigged the oven in an attempt to kill miles. Horribly injured , miles spent the next couple years mostly recovering or practicing with knives, he had a decent safety net from year of consistent work.  He knew he could never again return to the limelight with a face like his.     
   After a while miles got bored and decided to go back to the guild for some decent work and a little adventure.
