Problem
Guys, we have a small problem.
My Ascendant membership is up in a couple of weeks and at this moment I do not have the funds to renew it for another year. Without Ascendant status I do not have access to forums, which means the game won’t be able to continue in this form.
Got any suggestions on what to do?
I do. So we have a couple options. I have no problem chipping in some money since I get as much use out of this as you do. If we can cover the cost and keep going, great.
We don’t have to use the forum and email notification for this. A while back I played in a game on OP where we edited wiki pages instead. We could have a page for out-of-character dialog or leave messages in the comments. We could ping each other by email or Twitter when we post.
Either way, I enjoy the game and I would like to continue in some for, even if it is not in the forum.
What say you both?
I guess there is a third option. My son has an Ascendant membership as well. I’m sure he would not have a problem if we moved the campaign over to his site and made Daniel a co-gm. Obviously it is much easier if we keep it here. Just throwing it out there.
I got some flow over here. If you can chip in some, I can renew the membership and we can continue as we are now.
I hate to sound like the cheap guy here, but how much are we talking about to renew and for how long?
Did you guys want to renew for another year for $40?
If we’re prepared to pick up the pace a little, I could see contributing $20, but if we’re going to continue using this board to touch base and post once in-game every month or two, there are probably ways of doing that without an Ascendant membership. We could do that on Facebook or Google+ for free.
The features I think we’re talking about is the forum and the email notification. We do get the same thing from a Google+ thread that is only being shown to our group. I think then the setting and play are in two different places. I haven’t done anything in the wiki for a while, so all I’m really doing is referencing my character, which is still available for free.
The one thing with Google+, and I had this with The One Ring game we played, Jarad, is that an initial post does not alert the others, so new threads would also require a separate email or Tweet.
I’m not as versed on Facebook, but I think it works very similarly. Unless you’re posting on my wall, I won’t get an update to let me know.
I’m cool if we want to say here, I’m cool if we want to save a few bucks and do the forum stuff elsewhere. My only question is what would happen to the existing forums if Ascendant membership is lost. There is a lot of cool story stuff here that we might not be able to get back to.
Thoughts?
I feel I’m to blame for the lack of response. I’ve been fighting another bout of depression and have only now been feeling better. It is hard for me to stay connected on the web because I have to work at it; it’s easy for me to do nothing. But I don’t want to slip away and lose contact with folks, this contact keeps me going. I’m not sure how long-term this current run of increased energy will last, but I’m trying hard to make it stick around for a while.
I guess what I was saying with my last post, to put it in a nutshell, is that I need a process that pings me to act. I need that trigger to go and do something, to go and respond. Wherever we go, I will need that.
