On a civilized planet such as Hyperion, most denizens are tall, exceptional in stamina and health.. Dr. Flemmel was not granted such blessings. Dr. Flemmel stands at only 5’4", with extremely angular Asian features. She has long black hair that is tidily kept in a bun at the back of her head. She has scars upon her hands and arms, though she didn’t always have those!

Dr. Flemmel was born to an affluent family of musical prodigies – her father being a well known composer, her mother a beloved soprano opera singer. As they only had one child, they doted upon her and hoped for her to continue in their footsteps among the arts. Aria, never using her musically inspired name, preferred to immerse herself in logic and science. She pursued a career as a physician, studying chemistry, biology, genetics, robotics, cybernetics.. all sorts of science and computer related subjects to aid her in her quest to become a great doctor.

It didn’t always work out in her favor and caused her to gain a few enemies along the way… she just wished to cure diseases that others couldn’t, falling into a few pitfalls along the way that delayed her career as a physician. Why should the government control who gets what prescriptions, after all? Early on in her career at the age of 18, she was asked to join a research project that had a few shady undertones. She was young and not fully aware of the dangers she was getting into. The company she worked for which helped fund her other research asked her to experiment on human soldiers in an attempt to increase combat skills. In doing so, many soldiers reacted badly to the new drug prototypes, some fatally. This was her first real clinical trial, she was not yet a full fledged physician.. the company quickly disbanded, erasing evidence of the trials. However, one rich single father (Dirk Schrater) from a neighboring planet investigated for years after his son’s death – finding out that names of those researching, including Dr. Flemmel near her 30th birthday. He has been attempting to find out more about his son and perhaps get some revenge for the experimental trials. In her second career attempt, Dr. Flemmel changed – she learned her lesson and refused to cheat on standardized testing and research. (Note: I have “survival” written down but I’m not sure what this means..) In her third career, she finally became a full-fledged physician. She gained a breakthrough in her research, delving deep into cybernetics and robotics. Upon her fourth career, Dr. Flemmel continued her work as a physician – she gained a close, eccentric alley who happened to be a very widely recognized scientist by the name of Dr. Kift Sengal. They worked together to research common diseases and cure many ailments. Parting amicably, it is assured that if ever Dr. Flemmel is in need.. she has only to call on Kift. Once the two of them seperated, (career 5), Dr. Flemmel became quite jaded in the governmental control of certain drugs and medical availability to outlying planets. She began to do shady research with a company that agreed with her ideals, working on illegal substances that were governmentally controlled.. such as anti-aging drugs… The government surely would not agree with, neither would her partner on the research (Dr. Ufter Mims) who became an enemy after Aria kept some of the research for herself.

Dr. Flemmel was approached to join a mission into unknown space – how could she resist? They provided her with a sick bay of her own on the ship, and a chance to venture into space where there may be unexplored research, elements, and other supplies to discover along the way. Thus, she joined the Vigilance..
