Ghanima hails from the northern part of the Shadow Marches, near Yrlag on the border of the Eldeen Reaches. Ghanima’s companion is a Sun Bear named Barley. Her father is/was a half-elf named Corrino d’Medani and her mother was Irulan. Born in the month of Lharvion, Ghanima has always felt connected to the warmth of summer. Her father’s side of the family have traditionally manifested Marks of Detection and serve their house faithfully. At Ghanima’s birth, a basilisk appeared near her home but did not attack. Her father, Corrino d’Medani, took this as a great sign, for the Basilisk is the sign of his House. During the Last War, her father hunted down defilers of the natural world, especially the Magebreeders of House Vadalis and their unnatural ways. Ghanima’s mother Irulan was a long distant relation to House Tharask and kept the faith and teachings of the Gatekeeper druids, which her learned daughter well.
When Ghanima was 6 years old, Corrino d’Medani found a sun bear cub, born on the same day as Ghanima, its mother petrified by a Basilisk. Seeing this as a another sign from the Sovereign Host and Balinor himself, Corrino took the cub home and gave it to Ghanima who she promptly named Barley. Girl and bear became inseparable. At age sixteen, Ghanima and Barley were out foraging for herbs and tracking some game when she saw smoke in the sky. Rushing home, she found her home on fire and her mother bleeding and stumbling from the door. Khyber Cultists had beseiged her her home and began moving towards the young Ghanima. Barley wasted no time, rushing the remaining cultists and mauling them all. Sadly, one of the cultists poisoned his blade and dealt her a fatal blow. That day Ghanima lost her home, her mother Irulan and her best friend in a single day.
The Gatekeeper Druids came for her shortly thereafter and finished Ghanima’s druidic training. They fashioned Barley’s hide into armor for Ghanima, binding the hide with still-living vines. Barley’s spirit never left her side and quickly appeared as her spirit companion. A year later, the Day of Mourning struck. Her father’s brother, Shaddam d’Medani, brought grave news- the Inquisitor Corrino d’Medani was captured in battle near Metrol. Nothing in Cyre remained, but there was talk that some of the cities still harbored some survivors.
Ghanima joined her uncle in the Basilisk’s Gaze, training under the great Taldor d’Medani, honing her reason and observation skills. For her service in searching out those who committed atrocities during the Last War, Ghanima has earned a chained belt- each link forged of a different metal. Her weapon of choice is an six-foot long ironwood staff, with steel coiling around it. During her time with the Gaze, Ghanima raided a Khyber cultist’s camp in Thrane alongside a Dwarven fighter of the Silver Flame. That Dwarf saved her life in the fight against the Khyber cults. The two have become fast friends and Ghanima left her training with the Basilisk’s Gaze to join him in finding her father and destroying Khyber Cults across Khorvaire.
Ghanima has two goals in life- to destroy Khyber Cultists wherever they may be and to find out what happened to her father. She fights for the natural world, distrusting those who would defile and warp the natural order. She blames Vadalis and their Magebreeding for her father’s disappearance, and is wary of Cannith’s Warforged. She was investigating the Khyber Cult that the rest of the party was, and joined them before leaving.
