Magnus Trepp is a tinkerer, inventory, and lover of all things mechanical and magical. Until recently, he spent most of his life blowing up science projects in his basement, which left his body scarred yet tougher for wear. His work with traps and locks paid the rent, but he would always spend what he didn’t need on gizmos and gadgets. A bit of a recluse and loner, he does not do well in crowds and prefers to work alone. His life of soldaric gadgeteering came to an aburpt end, however, when his sister (Erin Thelin) and brother in law (Fredrick Thelin) were murdered.
A series a murders had broken out through the city of Magnimar, murders targeting parents whose children would become orphaned in the event of their parent’s death. The orphanages started filling up, and the easily overlooked Magnus became his nephew’s foster father. Perhaps the murderer overlooked Magnus’s quiet existence in this matter. Magnus turned his thoughts to revenge, and signed up with the city Justice for a special task force to track down the murder and bring him to an end.
