Penelope was the ideal child. To her parents Dr. James Harrington and Amelia Gardella, she was their angel. Penelope was the third child of four children. The eldest Darrington was Victoria Elizabeth, followed by James Michael the eldest son. Ruth “Ruthie” Hazel was Penelope’s younger sister. They were a happy family living in the height of the Victorian Era. The elder James, Penelope’s father was primarily a physician, yet had some major holdings in a shipping company. Penelope’s mother was very kind and charitable. She organized many fundraising events at their local Parish and orphanage. Penelope seemed to have learned the best traits from both of her parents. She was kind and beautiful like her mother, while studious and brilliant like her father. And even though she had several servants where she grow up, her father had taught her the value of an honest day’s work.

She met Nikotaru Kurushime while visiting her father while he was inspecting his shipping company one evening. Niko, as he insited that she call him, was evening foreman, one of the best workers her father had ever seen. She was instantly smitten by his stunningly handsome countenance. She recorded later in her journal, “…it was as if Heaven’s gates were open before my eyes, and I had seen a golden dreamy ray of light appear before me in the shape of a man. His face was finer than the cut and polished stone chiselled by the very hand of the great Michelangelo. His light xanthously cream skin seemed smooth and perfect. He was my Adonis.” Her father boasted that Niko was stronger than 10 men, he only wished Niko did not have is second job that made him unavailable during the mornings. Else, Dr. Harrington would promote him to head manager.
