Bio

Raistul is a curious young elf. He always has been. When he was young he was curious mostly about books. He read almost anything he could reach – and often devised ways to reach books he otherwise couldn’t have, such as those belonging to ornery neighbors or passing merchants. His two greatest curiosities were the subject of religion and and magic. He studied these endlessly, pouring over any material he could get, interviewing priests of almost every faith, and even spending entire days in meditation – trying out the religious prayers and techniques he had read about.

After several years of study, about the time he came of age, Raistul had decided that there was one of the gods who appealed to him most of all – the lord of secrets, Vecna. He left his home to find a group of Vecnan clerics who could initiate him into their order. He served a brief period as an apprentice to their high priest, and after a year in this station it was determined that he was dedicated and ready. Raistul joined the priesthood of Vecna the same day that news of his uncle’s passing reached him. As a full member of the priesthood, he was free to go see to this family business, and so he left for his uncle’s home.

Raistul was surprised to find that he was directly implicated in his uncle’s will, and was intrigued by his uncle’s mention of this Prison of Sorrows and the great artifact that lay hidden inside it. Raistul was drawn in by his ever-present depth of curiosity and set about making advertisements for his journey, seeking traveling companions.

“Come, ye, all who posses the strength of spirit or strength of arms and a love of gold or knowledge to the fourth house of Tailman Street to interview for a position in a lucrative expedition. KNOW that such a journey shall not be taken upon lightly, and those weak of resolve or unskilled in the martial or magical realms ought to seek fame and fortune elsewhere, for this expedition shall venture into the Prison of Sorrows.”

Raistul conducted nearly a score of interviews in which he attempted to determine the competence, attitude, and goals of each applicant. Finally he settled on three. A young, fairly bright half-elf with a penchant for song, a fairly brutal seeming dwarf who claims to be a priest of Tiamat, and a human woman who – while being not much more intelligent by Raistul’s measure than a faithful hound – had every appearance of a woman quite adept in the execution of murderous and violent deeds.

With this group assembled, he looks forward to beginning their journey to discover the secrets within this Prison of Sorrows.
