Bio
Prince Cael D’Cormyn is the son of Emperor Wulfgar D’Cormyn and Empress Anaria. By his bloodline he should be Half-Elven, and while he bears some of those traits in his features, he is considered to be an Aaismar.
Due to the selfless and lifelong dedication of his parents to the goddess Selune, She blessed the union of Wulfgar and Anaria, and their son was born touched by the heavens.
From an early age, Cael was groomed to be his father’s successor in every way. He was tutored in the ways of Selune’s church, as well as martial combat, history, diplomacy, and numerous other subjects. It was a labor of love for Cael who could not seem to learn enough to satisfy his thirst for knowledge and enlightenment. By the time he was a teenager he was serving in the Sembian Cavalry, and by the time he came to the age of majority he was a respected soldier and lieutenant to Captain Raiuun Draconen.
It was on his eighteenth birthday that he made the choice to serve the church directly. The calling was always strong for him, and while he was devout and was conscious to always act according to the tenets of his faith, Cael knew he could no longer ignore this vocation.
Over the next eight years he studied under Captain Draconen and Father Dariel, two of his father’s most trusted men. They presided over the Ceremony of Ordination that initiated Cael into Selune’s order of Holy Knights. He would spend the next several years upholding the justice of the Church and the crown throughout the Empire and the neighboring lands of Sembia’s allies.
This was a trying and exciting time for the young prince. He was learning more about the deeper mysteries of his faith every day, and was earning a reputation as a fierce combatant and fair adjudicator for the throne. While Cael reveled in all aspects of his duties, it was hard to ignore the darker side of his birthright.
Cael had seen many good people perish at the hands of Sembia’s various enemies. While he had lost close friends and comrades in arms, it was the innocents that inevitably fell during those conflicts that troubled him. Those citizens who counted on his protection who were killed, captured, forced into slavery, sacrificed to evil powers, and worst of all corrupted and seduced by the empty promises of those powers. These were all problems that his father and mentors had warned him about and did their best to prepare him for. In the end though, as his father explained, each man of conscience must address these trials in his own way. He must trust in his own heart and Selune’s guidance.
Cael’s passion and commitment could no longer be contained, so he sought out a small number amongst his faith who would be willing to take the fight directly to those who would threaten the good men and women under his banner. These men, taken from the ranks of the clergy and his own order who had also grown frustrated with being reactive to threats, would form the cornerstone of a group called the Sentinels.
While Cael would direct the activities of the Sentinels, they were often left to operate in small independent groups. It was through his involvement with the Sentinels that Cael came to understand just how grim the fight against evil was. He became more and more aware of how directly the powers of the lower planes acted in the mortal realms, and he knew he would have to do even more to turn back those influences.
Whether by coincidence or not, he was ushered to a secret meeting of holy knights on the next anniversary of his ordainment. The gathering was short and without fanfare and Cael was offered the option to join the Order of Stars. This was a small sect of his knighthood (of which he was previously unaware) dedicated to fighting the very worst threats imaginable. He accepted and with Selune’s blessing he survived the rite of initiation.
It has been nearly two years since that day, and Cael has found his world to be far larger and more perilous than he ever dreamed it might be. Now with the disappearance of his friend and mentor Father Dariel, Cael has embarked on yet another arduous quest, and if the early going is any indication, it may lead him straight to the gates of Hell itself.
