Robert Amberson is the embodiment of Duty. He is one of the last surviving members of an alternate-Amber family. Their world was a variant of Earth which also suffered an American Civil War, and Robert is proud to be a colonel in the Confederate Army – and especially proud that he is the one who developed the mechanism by which the slaves were freed.

He is married to Amber Amberson, and they have had several children together, but the only one still alive is Eureka. He now functions as Empress Ophyllia’s diplomat, traveling to “problem spots” around the multiverse and smoothing them out with his genteel charm and social grace.
