Sylaera was raised by her father after her mother’s death when she was a child. Her father remarried a human women, and had a daughter together, Remi. When she was about 90, and Remi roughly 3, her father and stepmother were killed in an attack while traveling to deliver weapons across the border. Sylaera managed to save her sister when their wagon tipped over, but still bears the scars from the incident. She and her sister were saved by a man with black wings, named Ravin, who took them to an orphanage he owned in Flamekeep.

Remi and Sylaera lived there with Ravin for nearly 20 years when Ravin also took in a young girl of 4, Anisa. The three girls were never adopted, and instead Ravin trained them to fight.

After an attack by Lady Vol’s followers, Ravin passed away; the girls arriving too late to help him. In his will, he left the girls with the task of traveling to Boravia, and defeating the Lord of Castle Ravenloft, Count Strahd. With the help of Findright and Zikpi, travelers also looking to defeat Strahd, and the young sorcerer, Tak, who was left in Ravin’s care by his master and Ravin’s old friend; the group set out together to face the vampire lord.

During their time in Boravia, Sylaera fell victim to the vampire, and was transformed into a half-vampire, of which she is still not aware of.
