Bio

16 years of age, a breadth short of half a rod and crushing the scales at a sack of flour over 6 talents

Born in Steppenhall, Damara, the middle son of 6. His most significant ancestors were in fact from the giant empire of Ostoria. The nearby Giantspire mountains are one of the few remaining holds of the giant descendants of this empire.

When he was less than 5 winters old his family undertook a long journey as refugees from Damara to the Great Dale. When Gareth Dragonbane routed the Giants of Bloodstone pass and the puppet armies of Orcus marched, the family fled, fearing oppression and conscription from either side.

Learnt survival, tracking, hunting and awareness of the mystical surroundings under the tutelage of hunters in the Great Dale as a child, in the northern eaves of the Rawlinswood.

Only when he reached the forests of the great dale and began meeting Nentyar hunters in the forests of the great dale did he become aware of his heritage and the significance of Dragonbane’s slaughter of giants allied to the puppet government in Heliogabalus.

Educated in Tellerth in the timing of the seasons, spin of the stars, distance, time and weights. Written literacy however he takes lightly, viewing the shape and form of runes as more important than the meaning of whole words. He doesn’t read books and spells his name a dozen ways. Was apprenticed to learn the trade of metal-craft, primarily weaponsmithing where his great strength was put to use.

Until recently counted a small village (Population: 767) on the northern edge of the Rawlinswood as home, although he effectively lived in the wilderness all his adolescence.

Fleeing into the forests as a refugee and then having his ancestry explained by a half-elven stranger was a pivotal life event as it brought him into the realm of the Nentyarch and sealed his loyalty to Nature.

His appreciation of wintry climes and general wanderlust have fused into a faith in Shaundakul.

As an adolescent he often visited a girl in the sheppard’s pastures on the southern foothills of the Giantspire mountains. He brought her asymmetrical broaches of woven cold iron. But she spurned him, as he was ugly and fearsome. She said the broaches were ugly and poor. He did not take heed of her intent, only her words. So to impress her family he stole a rothe calf, kept by fire giants in the mountains. These legendary beasts have curly black fur that the giants use to sift for gold in the streams and they value them highly.

The lowing of the calf drew the rest of the herd after Kostchi as he fled down the mountainside with the beast over his shoulder. The fire giants pursued the herd with their hellhound cattle-dogs. One devilish fire giant youth came all the way down the mountain as he suspected the thief was from the small cluster of buildings below. He threw flaming rocks into the buildings and flattened them. And when all was a smoking ruin the flaming black giant came down and ate the shepard’s remains.

Kostchei fled into the mountains and did not return to civilisation for years. He still has the calf hide as part of his bedroll. In fact he returned to the world of men and elves by accident. Finding solace amongst the huge ancient ruins he explored many strange places and most recently found a malfunctioning portal. It deposited him in a far land. The local speech is a little strange but he has found work at the bellows of blacksmiths and shot vermin in the rural countryside.
