Many things are believed about the enigmatic Lord Strahd, while very little is truly known.

It has to be believed that the name of Strahd is passed down from generation to generation, as the throne of Ravenloft has been held by someone of that name for well over 400 years. What is known beyond the shadow of a doubt, however, is that the kingdom has been ruled by this line of men solidly and securely throughout the centuries.

The history of the Realm of Ravenloft is essentially the history of Barovia, with other realms playing what seem to be bit parts. While other realms may have histories that stretch further back through the mists of time, Barovia’s history is either better documented, more easily verified, or less riddled with contradictions than that of other realms… and the history of Barovia is the history of Strahd von Zarovich.
