Bio

Nathaniel Reid was born in Aurora to an Auroran trader, Thomas Reid and an herbalist Annette Streymor. He has an older brother named Caleb who followed in the path of their father and became a merchant himself.

His grandparents on his father's side are Gwen and Charles Reid.  Gwen comes from a merchant background while Charles comes from a mixed background involving sailing and the Auroran navy. His grandparents on his mother's side are Jari and Katherine. Jari is a naturalist while Katherina is a curator of a museum. Both are involved in Badonia's academia.

Do to this diverse background, Nathaniel visited Babedonia rather often and learned much from his Grandfather and Grandmother including knowledge of Alchemy and other academic based subjects.

Nathaniel was able to explore his curiosity and be independent as a child spending much time around the docks of Safeport. He held a desire to see the world and wanted to join the navy and work towards joining the Auroran Outreach Ships. There he would learn combat and develop his already known skills of survival. Nathaniel was sent to the academy at the age of 14 assisting his father with the tuition by having worked for the last few years at whatever job he could find. He graduated at the age of 16. He then spent 4 years in the Auroran navy with some success in promotion and was on the right direction to join the outreach ships but was still a few months away.

He was placed on ships near hot zones around Skull Island and during one attack the pirates were successful in destroying the naval ship and Nathaniel was among the few to survive. The survivors were taken by the pirates and treated as slaves. After a few months they arrived at Trada and Nathaniel and most others were bought by a plantation owner. After several months, they attempted to escape and seize a ship to get back to Aurora. Some of the soldiers attempted to involve a large number of slaves in the escape which contributed to the ultimate failure of the escape.

The initial stealthy mission turned extremely bloody with the pirates and slaves fighting as the naval soldiers led the way to the docks. Nathaniel and a few others were able to reach a dockyard but unable to secure a ship and ended up fighting against several pirates while backed into a corner with Nathaniel as the last survivor having killed 14 pirates in the total process. Nathaniel was to be executed on the spot but was ultimately saved by his Uncle, Greyson who had joined the pirates years ago in search of power and money. His Uncle was second mate on a ship of Samuel Bellamy’s and held enough sway with those present to save Nathaniel’s life.

Nathaniel then spent the next 4 years aboard a pirate ship. At first he was very rebellious but after some time he began to became accustomed to the pirate life and was able to purchase his freedom by using the loot he gained from pirating. He spent the next 3 years choosing his path amongst the pirates and even passed over opportunities to return to Aurora. On his fourth year in Trada, Greyson approached him with the offer of being first mate if he joined in a mutiny. Nathaniel agreed as he still felt he owed his life to his Uncle and the possibility of being a first mate was too good to pass up. The mutiny was successful but shortly after Samuel Bellamy came and while the Uncle tried to lie his way into the Captain position Bellamy killed him on the spot and ordered the execution of everyone else. Nathaniel escaped, ending up in the ocean with several dead bodies and managed to stay adrift for several hours attempting to get where he thought other ships or land may be. On the way, a smuggling ship saw him and took him aboard. The ship was headed to Rungholt. At this point Nathaniel felt that anywhere was a better place to be than in Trada. He worked out a deal to be taken to Rungholt by working on the smuggling ship.

Once Nathaniel arrived in Rungholt he tried to find a place to live and work. He wanted to lay low for a period of time and then see what options he had available to him. He did odd jobs and started to trap animals in the swap and sells their hide. After several months he was approached by an individual who wanted him to work specifically for him and his partner. Nathaniel agreed and joined the alchemists, Gunter and Nicolas. Nathaniel was paid rather well to be their trapper, to be an unknown, and keep the work secret.Nathaniel purchased and used it as his home.
