The Five were risen from the lieutenants of the Black Serpent Reavers. Possessed of greater sentience they rose to a power greater than their subordinates. Mordain recognised this in his foul creations and later sent them to infiltrate Shakuru, the City of Beggars. There they acted as allies to King Holagar and lulled him into a false sense of security. Until eventually when the Siege of Shakuru eventually came. They turned on their former ally and they betrayed Holagar, leaving him to ravenous dogs of war. 

The Five, since then had become versed in dark magic under Baelgrund's tutilage and have taken residence in Shakurus Tower of Artifice. Long have they held Shakuru enthralled to their will. Working under the watchful eyes of Mordain Baelgrun, they command the hordes of undead within the City of Beggars, along with the… other inhabitants.

Although Baelgrun rules Shakuru, the Five believe they can turn Mordain's attentions to the rest of Khul, and even Titan in its entirety. Once the world is conquered, they would seek to raise the dead to bring all in eternal submission and obedience.
