Description

The Chessboard of the Aesir (four in existence)

Relic •••

Unique Power: Allows user to witness any battle in history through the eyes of a a soldier, unit commander, or general at the cost of 1 legend. The vision is not of the battle as it was, but of how the individual witnessing it perceived it.

Unique Power: Any soldier carrying one of the golden (color, not metal) chess pieces from the board may be recalled to the board’s location at the cost of one legend and one will power per 50 mile increment (thus 1L and 1W for 1 foot to 50 miles, 1L and 2W for 50 miles 1 foot to 100 miles, and so on). Soldiers must expend a willpower when receiving the piece to bond with it and may make a willpower roll to avoid being called to the board.

Unique Power: The user of the board may spend 1 willpower to be able to use the chessboard as a map of any battle in which soldiers bonded to the board are participating. This map allows the user to see a three-dimensional, real-time overview of the battlefield and allow communication with any soldier carrying a chess pieces. However, all attacks on the user while they use any aspect of this power automatically succeed and do not incur any reflexive defense knacks (such as Rabbit Reflexes).

Unified Chessboards of the Aesir (requires all four of the lesser artifacts)

Relic ••••••

Access to the War purview

Unique Power: Nullifies dodge penalty from third unique power (battle map) of the standard Chessboard.

Unique Power: Allows user to access third power (battle map) of the standard Chessboard during use of the first power (battle viewing) of the standard Chessboard.

Backstory

The Chessboards of the Aesir appear as fairly standard chessboards made out of a metal, divine in nature, that closely resembles gold, but may be burnished to shine brightly or dimly, does not oxidize, and is far more sturdy than gold. The chessboards are uniform and each has a full set of chess pieces in the same brightly and dimly shining metal.

The chessboards have existed, in one form or another, as long as the Aesir. While the pieces have been recarved by the gods as their whims have taken and the form of the game has changed somewhat, the boards have been a fixture in the great halls of the Norse gods for countless millenia. That is, until three of the four boards were lost. The single remaining board remains in Odin’s hall, protected by a special contingent of einherjiar.

It is said that after Ragnarok, Odin’s surviving sons will stumble upon the boards and take them back to the lands of the Aesir to be used by the gods.
