A wooden staff, roughly 6 feet long, covered in intricate carvings of snakes. The wood is grayish, and the snakes have been stained, making them quite conspicuous. The staff is not intended to be used in combat. The reason the snakes are stained is to make them conspicuous, so that any attacker knows they are attacking a healer.

Close examination will reveal at least two symbols near the head of the staff, one above the other. The lower symbol is the owner of the staff, the upper is the teacher. Some staffs have a chain of symbols, one above the other, this indicates a chain of teachers and students who become teachers in their turn. Traditionally, a healer seeking employment keeps these symbols facing forward, one who is currently engaged keeps the symbols towards himself.
