Bio
Sebastian is the son of Michelle “Tisk” Saint-Chant and her true love, Aloysius “Loy” D’Etoile. Because Loy is a vampire, this is regarded as a biologically impossible feat, which earned Sebastian a great deal of “fame” even before his birth. It was not until he was a young adult that Tisk explained that she was capable of parthenogenesis and possessed an unconscious awareness of what Loy would have contributed genetically to a child, which is how Sebastian came to be and take after his father (though she certainly didn’t use words that large or technical!).
Tisk was Queen of the Faerie when she was alive, and she was married to an Unseelie named Ben Janni (from whom Sebastian gets his middle name). Sebastian thus spent long stretches of his childhood in the Courts of Fae, adored by its citizens (who love human children of all sorts), and his stepfather was but one of several who gave him small blessings of faerie magic. Ben Janni’s gift of Glamer has been the most helpful to him, though – he is not only able to disguise himself, but also place illusions on such things as identifying documents.
When Sebastian came of age, he studied with the Sidereal Monks, an order of astrologers that knew the secret of powerful healing magics. He was very dismayed at all the attention paid to him by virtue of his parentage (Tisk and Loy being central figures in setting up the existing government and the philosophy of Harmony). He attempted to use his gift of Glamer to assume another identity, but was unable to maintain the illusions constantly, so he had to just grin and bear it until his studies were done. He then chose to live with Loy, on what is modern-day Earth, far away from the adoring crowds that his father also sought to avoid.
Now in his mid-twenties, he found that his healing magic and fae magics still obeyed him on this world, but he also saw that the vast majority of people went about their lives never interacting with magic. He began investigating what they did in lieu of healing magics, and found the concept of Western medicine. Absolutely fascinated, he set about obtaining an education on Earth even though it meant starting over in many respects, and at age 38 he earned his M.D. He did a little research on Eastern medicine and other ‘holistic’ techniques, but found them based on similar concepts as what he had learned with the Sidereal Monks, and far less effective without magic to augment them.
Sebastian is currently 152 years old; he never exhibited the outright Regeneration abilities that his mother possessed, but obviously something of it has passed down to him, because he is still in very good shape both physically and mentally. Sebastian is a widower who buried his wife 83 years ago, and after making sure all affairs were in order arranged to fake his own death on modern-day Earth and return to the Thousand Worlds. Because of differences in time flow, he found to his delight that almost nobody living even knew his name anymore, though he still gave a false name when he went to Orleans to work in the Sidereal Hospital there. The differences in time flow also meant that Tisk had aged much more rapidly than either he or Loy, and they buried her about 30 years ago. (Sebastian doesn’t think it’s a coincidence that Ben Janni died almost immediately afterward.) Sebastian has been working peacefully in Orleans for the last 80 years, but now adventure is about to find him. Hopefully it doesn’t know his real name.
