A long life on the frozen islands and seas of the far North have make Erik Modest a hard an unyielding man. His unusual stature, at nearly seven feet tall, is often rumored to be the result of an ancestor’s dalliance with a giant, though the truth of that is hotly debated.

He is the Lord of Whale Island, a large but mostly uninhabited island on the northern edge of the Near Sea. The island is entirely locked in ice for six months of the year, so many of his people live by “Walking the Ice” to hunt for seals and whales surfacing at ice cracks for air.

As Lord of Whale Island, he is beholden to the Lord of Far Point. That position has shifted between a number of families over the years, finally coming to rest on the shoulders of Gräfin Ursula Mannpurtz and her husband Lord Damien Ortra. His respect for her was solidified at the Spring Festival in Pact, where she bested him in the melee.
