Bio
As a young child, Grapak saw his entire tribe slaughtered by a group of adventurers. As killing children was against their code, they left Grapak alive. Unfortunately, with his whole family dead, he was forced to fend for himself in the wild.
Forced into the wilderness, Grapak’s latent magical abilities quickly manifested. The strain of surviving day to day hardened him and sharpened his powers until he become a force to be reckoned with.
After many years, he began attracting other kobolds to his side, eventually forming a tribe of his own. However, he has never forgotten the damage that even a small group of powerful warriors can do.
Because of this, Grapak prefers to parlay and negotiate with outsiders, rather than jump to outright hostility. Many an adventurer has been surprised by a kobold bearing a white flag and some token tribute instead of boiling oil or scorpion venom.
If, after talking to an outsider, Grapak feels threatened, he will do whatever it takes to please them, including paying tribute, giving away his people, or simply grovelling. However, if he feels that he is the stronger one, he will not hesitate to oppress the newcomer.
Tactics
If combat is not a foregone conclusion, Grapak will attempt to preempt the fight by parlaying with his adversaries. He will offer treasure, food and wine if his opponents will consent to simply lower their weapons and talk.
Once combat begins, Grapak will immediately dimension door to safety while instructing his lieutenants to fight. While away he will quickly buff himself with shield, invisibility, reduce person, and blur.
At that point he will cautiously rejoin the fight. He will try to hang back, casting lightning bolt whenever the opportunity presents itself. If ever directly threatened, he will attempt to put distance between himself and attackers. If he is unable to run, he will dimension door again.
If he feels in danger of dying, he will retreat by any means possible.
