Description

Jareth’s Books of Cantrips is a pocket-sized collection of all cantrips, made to free up the precious room each 0-level spells would otherwise take up in a wizard’s spellbook.

The book is printed by the Academy, a school of wizardy maintained by the mageocracy of Kest, nestled in the Madre Islands. Copies are given to each student on Initiation. The binding is itself a minor enchantment, allowing specialist mages to easily remove pages without causing any damage to the book.

At present, the book is in its third edition, though a rumored fourth addition is in the works.

Backstory

Many ages ago, when the elves launched their counter-assault on the whole of Angor, Kethrian Arcyle stood as the advisor to Lionel Alexander, the King of Corsica and the man who had started the Angor War. Believing him to influenced the king’s decisions before the war, the elves stripped him to his flesh and set him loose in the East Mountains- claiming his poisoned tongue had stripped them of their homes and left them abandoned to their fates.

Exiled from an enslaved race, he stumbled about until he thought death was looming closer. Instead, the elans- a race of psionic aberrations -found him and transformed him into one of them.

Shedding his old life like a snake sheds its skin, Kethrian Arcyle was reborn as Jareth. With his new-found timelessness, Jareth began to study the secrets of arcana, ultimately becoming a very gifted transmuter.

Ultimately, Jareth would find himself traveling from the main continent to the island nations in the south. There he and several other mages helped an island to win their independance and the mageocracy of Kest was soon established.

After being elected as one of the eight senators of the isle, Jareth used his term to greatly improve his district. Still, what many of Kest’s residents consider to be the transmuter’s greatest accomplishment is Jareth’s Book of Cantrips.

In the century Jareth had spent studying magic, he had accumulated a trove of spellbooks and slowly began to organize them. In doing so, he realized that nearly twenty pages of his precious spellbooks were devoted to cantrips, inspiring him to compile his cantrips into their own book. When some of his fellow senators saw his ingenious organization they began to suggest how helpful it might be to provide the students of their school with similar books.
