Backstory
The Orichalcum swords of Atlantis are forged from the legendary magical crystals of the now-lost island kingdom. Rumor and myth state that the blades were symbols of command, fashioned to be lesser reflections of a powerful artifact called The Sword of Atlantean Kings. The lesser swords could not rival the King’s Blade for power and could be further differentiated by whether they were carried by one of royal blood or of common. Regardless of the bearer’s background, such swords were highly respected and implied that the bearer was of high esteem.
Blades for those of common blood, the blades were often designed to look much like a standard sword, though they were clearly crystalline and glowed with the power with which they had been infused during their forging.
For those of royal blood, the blades were far more ornately designed, often evoking natural structures. These blades glowed more brightly and sometimes had segments that glowed a different color than the main blade.
It is rumored that a small number of the blades were carried away from the island kingdom by those who escaped its drowning. A far greater number were likely lost, buried and then drowned in Atlantis’ collapse.
