Belphianor's Travel Tapestry
Hole to the place depicted.
Author: bluea
Category: transport/conveyance
Game System: AD&D (2.0)
Is Public?: Yes
Is Visible?: Yes
Description
Only functional when the target location matches the exact details of the tapestry itself. The ‘front’ of the tapestry acts in a similar fashion to a real hole. Nothing is cut off by being pulled back, anything partway through is actually visible ‘in’ the tapestry. Anything that is completely through, however, disappears from view. And, hopefully, falls out of the viewing area. Because while that item alters the ‘area of view’ the tapestry doesn’t work.
The tapestry is about 4’ x 4’ x 1/2”. It weighs about 15 pounds, and can be rolled up fine. The tapestry acts like inert woven material so long as it is not completely flat. The rear is always inert. There’s usually a maker’s mark in a corner, which doesn’t interfere with normal operation.
Backstory
This particular tapestry was created by Archmage Belphianor. It depicts a patch of floor at about a forty-five degree angle – as if one was looking at the floor from a balcony.
The image itself is entirely fitted, polished black stone floor. A large, intricate magic circle is inscribed within a pentacle. The apexes of the pentacle have 12” lit white candles standing on them. There are two apexes close to the viewpoint, and midway between them is a closed, padlocked, large metal chest.
The maker’s mark says “Belphianor.”
