Description
The dazzling beauty of this light crossbow does not detract from its functionality. An ivory inlaid stock of oiled wood gleams in the dimmest light and gives heart to followers of the True God. Though somewhat ornate, the mithril trigger mechanism is dependable and fully functional. The bowstring will never break under normal conditions, and never suffers water damage. The steel bow never rusts.
The crossbow has the following powers.
- +2 Hellspawn Bane. Against Hellspawn, the crossbow has an additional +2 enhancement, for a total of +4, and does an additional 2d6 Hit Points damage.
- All followers of the True God within 30’ of the crossbow gain a +2 bonus to Willpower Saves.
Backstory
While the lineage of this crossbow is unknown, the craftsmanship dates it from the holy wars fought to preserve the Western Empire. Neither scholars nor priests understand why the crossbow suddenly appeared in the Patriarch’s armory a few years ago. No one alive had ever seen it before that time.
A story spread throughout the Eastern Empire that the True God had sent a weapon to defeat the hosts of the Dark Lord. Common soldiers took heart from this and used the supposed Miracle as inspiration. The Patriarch has not spoken publicly on the issue, and does not allow priests to contradict the belief.
