Description
A journal stone can store 5 minutes of sound. They have very simple controls: tapping the stone lightly causes it to begin “playing” the recorded speech, which it always does from start to finish, then starting over at the beginning. Tapping it again causes it to stop playing. Gripping the stone and squeezing it causes it to start recording. Each stone can only hold one message, so starting a new recording always erases the previous recording. The message played back is as loud as the recorded message.
The improved version of this item can be set to be played or recorded only by specific individuals.
The greater version makes a record of unauthorized individuals that attempt to use it, and heats up or delivers a mild shock (Fort DC 13 or drop the stone) when handled by anyone not permitted to activate the stone.
Faint Metacreativity; ML 1st lesser, 3rd improved, 5th greater; craft universal item; create sound (all varieties), object reading (greater); price 45 gp. lesser, 150 gp. improved, 300 greater; Weight 1/5 lb.
Backstory
This is a smooth semi-precious stone of unremarkable appearance. Upon touching it, it hums faintly and begins to speak in a tinny voice.
