Backstory
The seakeeper’s belt appears to be a plain, leather belt decorated with bits of polished coral and studded along the perimeter with tiny seed pearls. However, its humble appearance belies a grand history. The belt once belonged to an ancient druid known only as the Seakeeper. The Seakeeper was born in a coastal village where he learned to appreciate and revere the power and whims of the ocean, and into adulthood, he came to see it as the ultimate symbol of creation.
The Seakeeper devoted his entire life to the protection of the world’s oceans, using his magical aptitude to protect denizens of the seas. In particular, he proved to be a harsh foe for pirates, sahuagins, and whalers alike, but he was a benevolent if not somewhat grim ally to fishermen the world over.
His activities earned him the praise of Elhonna, who rewarded the Seakeeper with a belt that would help him to better withstand the dangers of the ocean and of the land alike. Although this reward was unique, it was later replicated by druidic circles across the world following his death.
Sidenote: This item can be adapted to fit several different campaign settings. Elhonna is used merely as she is the standard benevolent nature goddess, but any variety of nature or sea dieties may have presented such an item to the Seakeeper in other settings.
