I rediscovered RPGs more than ten years ago now. I’ve been involved in a face-to-face campaign continuously since that time. I’m into fantasy settings, but occasionally explore other genres.
I only recently discovered PbP games. Since I’m the scribe for my face-to-face game it was a natural transition. I also got my undergraduate degree in English, so I find that PbP gaming is a great way to exercise my creative writing—something I don’t get to do in my day-to-day job.
I’m trying to use PbP as an opportunity to explore new character types, i.e., classes, races, personalities etc., that I’ve never played before. The biggest adjustment for me with PbP is the pace. OMG is it friggn’ slow! I’m learning to be patient, but I still have a ways to go. I’m thinking it’ll help when I’m playing three or four games at once. Some day I aspire to be a PbP GM, but I’m in no rush either.
