I’ve been gaming pretty steadily for about 3 years now. My first (and current) Deadlands character was originally conceived as a “throwaway” until I could get the hang of the system… but he’s still going strong!
On the other hand… I’ve gone through several D&D 3.5 characters in about 18 months… the Sorcerer drowned, the Ranger was lost in a campaign reset, and the Rogue got killed by an evil carpet. So I’m done playing “squishies” for a while, and have switched to a Paladin.
