I’ve been playing D&D in various incarnations for nearly thirty years. I’ve played almost all the editions except 3.5 (I lacked a group at the time). The only comment I’ll make with respect to edition wars is this: Dungeons and Dragons is a game. It is meant to be fun. Play whatever edition you like to play the most, and let everyone else do the same.
I’m (very) slowly working on converting Adrian Bott’s excellent Drow War 1st through 30th campaign to 4th Edition, with the assistance of the excellent Masterplan software, with a view to running it in the future. So far I’ve mostly been concentrating on converting the content that pertains most directly to character creation; for example, the birth sign rules are implemented in 4E as a background choice; but I’ve also been taking a look at some of the early encounters to try and get a feel for how they would convert. I might post links to PDFs of the rules I’ve converted so far if there is interest.
